Yesterday it was September 11th 2018 – New Zealand Time. I was reflecting that day 9/11 – the horror shock to many people in New York, USA, saw the disaster of the World Trade Towers, ( the Twin Towers) and the planes crashed nearby the Pentagon Building.  Today I am typing this blog by using New York Time 11:36pm – September 11th 2018. Because many social media did not include any disabled even Deaf people who may have survived or killed in the World Trade Towers and at the Pentagon Building.

Yes, there were a few Deaf people who survived in the World Trade Towers and the Pentagon Building. I don’t have the full answer on how many people survived, only the approximately number Deaf People.

The Word Trade Towers – around 8 Deaf People survived and 2 Deaf people killed.

At the Pentagon Building – about 8 Deaf people survived.

One of my hearing friends worked in the World Trade Towers building and he was lucky because he stayed home with the flu in New Hampshire.

Here is a video clip from one of the filmmakers and I bought the DVD. It was a powerful and very emotionally documentary to watch many Deaf people went through the horror experience of surviving the attack, the lack of communication, the lack of messages due to overloading communication network systems and the awareness of people with disabilities who worked there or visit there.

Not just the Deaf people who survived or killed in the World Trade Towers – there were several people in wheelchairs and they were lucky to have special evacuation chair already. The Evac+Chair was the good option for any wheelchair users to use during the evacuation because it takes one hour and a half from the 56th floor down to the ground. Without the EVAC+ Chair, it will take them six hours and the helpers had to carry the wheelchair user down.
